Mom's Log

Daddy caught a MUSKIE! A HUGE fish. Well, maybe not that huge, but it was a fish!My mother, Susan Schneider, kept a log of our summer camping trips. Mom had a unique writing style and used some shorthand (e.g. thot for thought) which I left intact. This log along with a few treasured pictures from that time period are my most treasured items from Mom and Dad's estate. It's funny what I remember from that time....I remember catching frogs at Starrett Lake, swimming the lake the first time (including hanging on to the bow of the canoe to rest), the canoe trip down Trout River (FEND! FEND!), and the shower curtains. I don't remember any of the people, except Mr. Nelson the park ranger in Canada. Weird.

I was also surprised at Mom's obsession with eating fish. To this day, I really, really don't like fried fish. I seem to remember eating a lot of beans, coleslaw and rye bread during that time though.

Thank you Dad for taking us camping, doing all the hard work while we fished and had fun, and not getting too mad when things broke. Thanks Mom for being a good sport and sleeping in a tent instead of at an elegant resort, for always being so positive and kind about our little achievements and disappointments, and for keeping this record for our family.
